He who did nothing because he could do only a little".

Who We Are

The Darien Environmental Group was founded by a group of local residents who wanted to focus attention on the environment. Through educational initiatives the group gradually built a set of programs that would encourage ways each of us can make a positive difference for our environment. We want people to realize that the small changes we make in our habits will create real change for the community.

Whether it is through the grade school programs or our new residents grocery bag give aways our goal is to guide Darien citizens to be responsible for their environment.

We meet monthly to review existing programs along with brainstorming future projects. We always welcome new members. If you have a little or a lot of time to donate become a part of this positive change.

DEG has been involved in the townwide arts festival, the annual Memorial Day parade, the sale of rain barrels, the hazardous waste collection day in town and various recycling initiatives.

The Darien Environmental Group, Inc. is a non-profit 501c3 volunteer organization.

The purpose of this organization is to educate Darien residents about ways in which they can change their consumer and lifestyle habits to benefit our environment.

What We Do

We have programs for all ages. Our educational presentations have been given at the Darien Public schools for many years. We teach kindergarten students through fourth graders.

The kindergarteners receive environmental lunch boxes, the first graders have precycling/recycling programs, the second graders learn about composting while the fourth graders receive a wonderful talk on water conservation. New volunteers are always welcome. The training is easy and the audience always appreciative! Join our education team.

DEG also greets new residents to Darien with welcome reuseable grocery bags. They are filled with information about recycling in Connecticut, wetlands information and much more. We are always looking for additional drivers to drop off a few bags to new members of our community. It's easy and fun.

The Darien Environmental group was featured on the Martha Stewart program a few years back. One of our members talked about precycling/recycling. Focusing on how each of us can make a difference to the environment with our consumer habits.
