How bad is Empire Size Stellaris? ›

Early in the game you won't need to worry about Empire Size at all. As long as it's one hundred or less, it has no effect. For every point of Sprawl above a hundred, however, the cost of Technologies increases by one tenth of a percent and the cost of Traditions increases by one fifth of a percent.

Planet size

Planets have a size between 12 and 25. Moons have a size between 10 and 15. Homeworlds have a size between 18 and 21, unless otherwise determined by the empire's origin.

Empire size represents the increasing difficulties of managing a large empire. Each point of empire size above 100 increases tradition and technology cost by +0.2%. This penalty is affected by certain authorities and a single technology, as noted in the table on the right.
